Sith Lord. Sith Pope

Now this doesn't have anything at all to do with Jonah but Pope Benedict has been rubbing me wrong since I began reading about his visit to Brazil. I knew that I had felt this feeling of dread, sorrow and anger before and, after talking with Hallie, realized that Star Wars Episode 1,2 and 3 had given me the exact same feelings. Now I know why. Which one do you find more threatening?

My Mind

Reading: When the Sleeper Wakes by H.G. Wells Listening: Yellow House by Grizzly Bear, Year Zero by Nine Inch Nails, Expensive Shit by Fela Kuti Eye Candy: www.robynhartzell.com I have begun to realize the impact that having a child has on my thinking. I used to listen to the news, read the paper and browse the internet for information about the world around me. In general, I'd end up switching NPR for NIN or other suitable tunes, the world news for Sudoku, and Internet information in exchange for YouTube, Pitchfork, or punching the monkey to win an ipod. Now, however, I find myself deeply disturbed in a whole new way when reading about environmental and political news, because I understand that whatever is happening now is the world in which Jonah Elias Timetraveler Diltz lives, learns and grows. DO NOT....I repeat...DO NOT EVER take a tiny baby on a 3 1/2 hour car ride by yourself (or even with someone else along for that matter). Big, dumb, huge mistake. Tiny babies need to be held and cuddled by humans, not plastic car seats..as Jonah taught me last week. Here's what happened. Since I'm on this lovely maternity leave, I decided that it would be real cool to take Jonah to Roseburg to visit my parents. They live about 3 1/2 hours drive from Portland. No problem, I thought. Yeah, I'll certainly have to stop once each way to feed him, but other than that, he'll be totally content back there. Well..that's pretty much the exact opposite of what happened. We started off at about 5:45 PM. About 40 minutes outside of town Jonah starts mildly fussing..ok, need to pull over..but wait..I realize that I'm definitely not in California anymore, as the off ramps are sometimes miles and miles apart. How I wish for overpopulated, suburbanized California at this point!
